Abstract A sol-gel process has been developed for the chemical synthesis of ZnS at room temperature using zinc tert-butoxide and H2S as precursors in a toluene solution. The obtained reaction product was a yellow semi-transparent gel which dried to a reddish-orange solid. Characterization of the dried gel by XRD, IR and EDS confirmed that the product

Sol-gel processes in catalysis

Sol-Gel Processed Oxide Photocatalysts
2012The utilization of photochemical reaction on semiconductor materials has been investigated extensively. Photocatalysis is a reaction that uses light to induce chemical transformation on organic or inorganic substrates without being altered or consumed.

Sol-gel processing of ceramics
2010The sol-gel process can be considered as an interesting method for the synthesis of tailor-made ceramic raw materials. Two points of view are of special interest: powder synthesis and the processing of ultrafine raw materials. In the case of powder synthesis, high quality and multicomponent powders can be synthesized by control of surface chemistry and

Sol Gel Processing — General Principles
1994Our current understanding of the sol-gel process is reviewed, covering alkoxide gels and particulate gels. The steps forming, drying and sintering-are presented, primarily for silicates. Multicomponent glasses are discussed, as are drying treatments and the effects of fluorine during sintering.

Applications of Sol-Gel Processing
1998Sol-gel processes are interesting from a scientific point of view as well as for new or potential industrial applications. In some rare examples, sols or gels can be used as end products. Most often however, they must be transformed to an appropriate ceramic phase with interesting properties and they must also be densified.
