AbstractIn this study, heifers were dosed with 25 g/kg powdered S. glaucophyllum (Sg) leaves in water for 15, 30 and 60 days. One group was dosed for 15 days and sacrificed at 60 days (recovery group). Control animals received only tap water and were sacrificed at 0 and 60 days of treatment.

Endocrinology, 1976The ability of an aqueous extract prepared from dried leaves of the South American shrub Solanum glaucophyllum to interact with a chick intestinal receptor system highly specific for the biologically active form of vitamin D, 1alpha, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1alpha,25-(OH)2D3), was monitored under both in vivo and in vitro conditions.
