Nature's Shield: Exploring Nonglandular Trichomes (NGT) as Key Players in Plant Defense Mechanisms
ABSTRACT Trichomes are found on almost all terrestrial plants and are derived from epidermal cells. Nonglandular trichomes (NGTs) protect plants from environmental stress, such as pest and pathogen invasion, reduce water loss, and increase resistance to abiotic stressors, including UV radiation, cold, and extreme temperatures.

SUMMARY Terpenoids, the largest and most structurally diverse class of plant natural products, play essential roles in maize defense and ecological interactions. In this study, we identified and functionally characterized a sesquiterpenoid‐based defense pathway in maize centered on α‐santalenoic acid, a pathogen‐inducible sesquiterpenoid antibiotic ...

Co‐Selection of Low Cadmium Accumulation and High Yield During Tomato Improvement
This study finds that large‐fruited tomatoes accumulate less cadmium (Cd) compared to wild tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. This is because, during the improvement process of tomato, the low‐Cd allele LCT1A and the large fruit allele fw3.2T are closely linked, leading to a co‐selection event.

The N gene protects tomato plants from tomato brown rugose fruit virus infection
Summary The tobamovirus tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) has recently emerged, causing significant damage to the tomato industry in various regions worldwide, including the US. ToBRFV evades the widely used Tm‐22 resistance gene, which encodes a nucleotide‐binding leucine‐rich repeat (NLR) class immune receptor with an N‐terminal coiled‐coil ...
