Combining ability studies in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)

General and specific combining abilities (GCA and SCA) were estimated using ten lines of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and four testers and their F1 hybrids, bred in line × tester fashion. The results indicated in general, that a particular cultivar or hybrid cannot be used to evaluate all studied characters with equal efficiency.

The BIRD protein JACKDAW (JKD) belong to the INDETERMINATE DOMAIN (IDD) protein family shown to regulate many developmental processes in plants. JKD encodes a Zinc Finger Protein expressed in the root ground tissue and regulates root patterning in Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis).
