Solar urticaria is a relatively rare immunoglobulin E-mediated photodermatosis that is caused by specific, yet diverse wavelengths of light. The history, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, histology, etiology/pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, treatment, course, and prognosis of solar urticaria are reviewed herein.

A case of solar urticaria is presented, followed by a discussion of the clinical characteristics, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of this disease. Special emphasis is given to clinical pearls and pitfalls for the practicing allergist. Solar urticaria is a physical urticaria that can be difficult to diagnose and distinguish from other ...

Solar urticaria is a rare disorder in which patients develop urticarial lesions after exposure to light from the sun or other sources. The etiology is unknown: some cases appear to be mediated by IgE, but other mechanisms may ultimately be found to be more significant. This disease typically persists for years, but may resolve spontaneously.

Solar neutrinos have been measured by a radioactive scheme involving 37 Cl , and by electron collisions at Kamiokande II. The former experiment gave 1/4, the latter 1/2 of the intensity expected from the standard solar model. Kamiokande showed that the central temperature from the standard model is at least approximately correct.
