Solar activity and the solar cycle
Advances in Space Research, 2003Abstract Solar activity prediction methods have been wide-ranging, mostly numerical, and essentially curve fitting. Thus for many years the search for physically based methods has remained elusive. Surprisingly, a new class of methods does seem to be making progress, and it relates to the structure of the field within the Sun and heliosphere.

Solar activity and the solar wind
Reviews of Geophysics, 1979The availability of in situ solar wind observations from the complete sunspot cycle 20 (1964–1976) suggests an examination of the changes in the character of the solar wind related to the solar cycle and comparison of these observed changes with those expected from earlier studies of solar‐terrestrial physics.

Critical Analysis of a Hypothesis of the Planetary Tidal Influence on Solar Activity
Solar Physics, 2014The present work is a critical revision of the hypothesis of the planetary tidal influence on solar activity published by Abreu et al. (Astron. Astrophys.548, A88, 2012; called A12 here).

IS THE SOLAR ACTIVITY CYCLE SYNCHRONIZED WITH THE SOLAR INERTIAL MOTION?
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2000The 300 year record of the yearly sunspot numbers and numerically generated trajectory of the solar inertial motion (SIM) were subjects of a synchronization analysis. Phase synchronization of the sunspot cycle and a fast component of the SIM have been found and confirmed with statistical significance in three epochs (1727–1757, 1802–1832 and 1863–1922)

During the past four years, the emphasis in much of the solar research in the United States gradually shifted from the structure of active regions to the nature of the impulsive phase of flares. The first two years of the review interval were dominated by completion of the Skylab data analyses, and especially by the Skylab Workshops on Solar Active ...

The magnetic cycle lasts 22 years, reversing polarity in each 11-year half. Spots reach the surface in emerging flux regions (EFR) and grow in complexity. Ephemeral regions bring considerable flux to the surface, but play no great role. Diffusion models of the cycle are discussed, but the low observed diffusion constant makes them a poor fit to reality.
