AbstractThin‐film flexible photovoltaics are paving the way to low‐cost electricity. Organic, inorganic and organic–inorganic solar cells are deposited over flexible substrates by high‐throughput (often roll‐to‐roll printing) technologies to afford lightweight, economic solar modules that can be integrated into, not installed on, various surfaces ...

Projections show that worldwide energy consumption will increase by about 50% from 5.32×102° J to 7.80×1020 J within the next 30 years. New energy sources must be made accessible to ensure that the rising energy requirements are met. In this context, organic solar cells (OSCs) show great promise to reduce costs as well as energy consumption during ...

This paper is intended to give an overview of the applications of epitaxial growth to photovoltaic solar cells. In order to introduce those operating parameters which can be improved by epitaxy, we begin by describing how a solar cell functions. Then we discuss the contribution of epitaxial growth to higher cell performance through improved crystalline

Abstract Semiconductor liquid junction solar cells reach 12 per cent solar to electrical and similar solar to chemical (hydrogen) conversion efficiency when made with single crystal semiconductors; they retain 2 3 of this efficiency when made with thin, chemically formed, polycrystalline semiconductor films.

Thin film solar cells, ∼1 μm thick, have been fabricated from amorphous silicon deposited from a glow discharge in silane. The cells were made in a p-i-n structure by using doping gases in the discharge. The best power conversion efficiency to date is 2.4% in AM-1 sunlight.

In recent years, solar energy has received extensive attention as a viable source of green energy. The variety of solar cells has increased considerably, from crystalline silicon solar cells, amorphous silicon thin-film solar cells to newer forms such as dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and organic solar cells.

This chapter deals with the thermal issue in concentrator photovoltaic with particular emphasis on point focus systems, where the issue is more complex. The point can be stated in a very simple way: concentrating radiation on a photovoltaic converter means that the excess energy that is not converted in electricity accumulates in the component in form ...
