Floating Solar Chimney versus Concrete Solar Chimney Power Plants

2007 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power, 2007
A solar chimney power plant has three major components: (1) A circular solar collector (Greenhouse) (2) A tall cylinder in the center of the solar collector ( Solar Chimney) (3) A set of air turbines geared to electric generators around the bottom of the solar chimney The air warms up inside the greenhouse by the solar irradiation and, due to its ...

Constructal solar chimney configuration

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2010
In this study, we describe the constructal-theory search for the geometry of a solar chimney. The objective is to increase the power production over the area occupied by the plant. The ratio height/radius, maximum mass flow rate and maximum power under the constraints of a fixed area and volume are determined.

Solar chimney turbine characteristics

Solar Energy, 2004
A typical layout of a solar chimney power plant has a single axial turbine with radial inflow through inlet guide vanes at the base of the chimney. Turbine efficiency depends on the turbine blade row and turbine diffuser loss coefficients. The paper presents analytical equations in terms of turbine flow and load coefficient and degree of reaction, to ...

Solar chimneys: simulation and experiment

Energy and Buildings, 2000
The use of solar chimneys in buildings is one way to increment natural ventilation and, as a consequence, to improve indoor air quality. They are similar to conventional chimneys except that the south wall is replaced by a glazing. In order to compare the behaviour of a solar chimney with a conventional one, one of each was built in Porto.

A mathematical model of a solar chimney

Renewable Energy, 2003
A simple mathematical model of a solar chimney is proposed. The physical model is similar to the Trombe wall. One side of the chimney is provided with a glass cover which with the other three solid walls of the chimney form a channel through which the heated air could rise and flow by natural convection.

Solar chimney power plants for high latitudes

Solar Energy, 2005
A solar chimney system for power production at high latitudes has been designed and its performance has been evaluated. A mathematical model and a code on MATLAB platform have been developed based on monthly average meteorological data and thermodynamic cycle. The thermal performance of a 5 MW nominal power production plant at three locations in Canada,

Solar heating—Ventilating system using a solar chimney

Solar Energy, 1982
Abstract This paper presents the theoretical and experimental studies of a modified Trombe wall collector. As it is well known, the Trombe wall collector is a self convective flow solar air heating collector with thermal energy stored in the mass of the wall.

The influence of chimney structural parameters on the solar chimneys integrated with seawater desalination

International Conference on Sustainable Power Generation and Supply (SUPERGEN 2012), 2012
Comparison experimental devices with the different chimney structural parameters for the solar chimney power generation system integrated with seawater desalination have been set up. The performances of these integrated devices have been tested and researched comparatively under the actual weather condition.
