Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejections During Solar Cycle 23

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
We summarize the properties of the ∼320 interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs) identified in the near‐Earth solar wind during solar cycle 23 up to mid‐2009 and note a recent increase in the ICME rate that may be associated with the new solar cycle. We also discuss how recent revisions in the ACE/SWICS solar wind composition data require the ICME

Prompt solar proton events and coronal mass ejections

Solar Physics, 1978
Data from the HAO white-light coronagraph and the X-ray telescope on Skylab have been used to investigate the coronal manifestations of 18 prompt solar proton events observed on the IMP 7 spacecraft during the Skylab period. Evidence is found that a mass-ejection event is a necessary condition for the occurrence of a prompt proton event.

3D Patchy Reconnection in Solar Coronal Mass Ejections

IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 2005 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 2005
Summary form only given. Coronal mass ejections (CME's), sudden eruptions of coronal plasma and magnetic field into the interplanetary medium, are one of the most dynamic phenomena in the solar corona. These CME's are an important driver of space weather both through their interaction with the Earth's magnetosphere and through the magnetic reconnection

The solar sources of coronal mass ejections

2008
Despite nearly two decades of observations and study of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), the question of the physical and phenomenological origins of CMEs remains unanswered. This question has been addressed in several different types of studies, each having important limitations.

Abundance Enhancements in Impulsive Solar Energetic-Particle Events with Associated Coronal Mass Ejections

, 2014
We study the abundances of the elements He through Pb in Fe-rich impulsive solar energetic-particle (SEP) events with measurable abundances of ions with atomic number Z>2 observed on the Wind spacecraft, and their relationship with coronal mass ejections

The Solar Cycle Dependence of Coronal Mass Ejections

1986
The Solwind white light coronagraph on P78-1 has been making routine observations of the solar corona since 28 March 1979. Data from the 1984/1985 time period has just been analyzed. During this interval, a period of low solar activity, coronal mass ejections (CMEs) occurred at the rate of 0.2– 0.4/day, in contrast to the rate of 1.8/day during the ...

Coronal mass ejections: Relationship with solar flares and coronal holes

2002
Abstract The Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) observed by the LASCO coronagraph and associated solar activity phenomena whose locations were identified by EIT and solar Hα flare observations during year 2000 indicate that about 40%, 26% and 30% of CMEs were observed when there were coronal holes (CHs) within 1–10, 11–20 and 21–40 degrees, respectively

Solar Radar Detection of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs)

2000
Abstract : This report results from a contract tasking Institute of Radio Astronomy (RIAN) as follows: The contractor will investigate the use of powerful HF radars to detect coronal mass ejections from the sun.
