Rotating Turbulent Thermal Convection and Solar Differential Rotation

open access: yes, 2022
The expansion of the rotating fluid will change the vorticity and rotational speed of the expanding region. In turbulent thermal convection, this microscopic effect is preserved. Tracking the fluid micelles shows that the average vorticity varies with density, producing vorticity transport and angular momentum transport from the low-density area to the

The impact of differential rotation on the stochastic excitation of acoustic modes in solar-like pulsators

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Acoustic modes are excited by turbulent convection in the outer convective envelope of solar-like stars. Observational results from asteroseismic studies have shown that 44% of solar-like stars do not present detectable stochastically excited ...

V889 Her: abrupt changes in the magnetic field or differential rotation?

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics, 2022
We have applied Zeeman-Doppler imaging (ZDI) to an extensive spectropolarimetric HARPSpol data set of the magnetically active young solar analogue V889 Her, covering 35 spectra obtained during six nights in May 2011.

Magnetically controlled stellar differential rotation near the transition from solar to anti-solar profiles

open access: yes, 2015
VK: Karhunen, J.; ReSoLVEContext. Late-type stars rotate differentially owing to anisotropic turbulence in their outer convection zones. The rotation is called solar-like (SL) when the equator rotates fastest and anti-solar (AS) otherwise.

Ray Tracing of MHD Rossby Waves in the Solar Tachocline: Meridional Propagation and Implications for the Solar Magnetic Activity

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
Rossby waves have been recently recognised for their role in the large-scale spatio-temporal organisation of the solar magnetic activity. Here, we study the propagation of magnetohydrodynamic Rossby waves in a thin layer, representing the solar ...

Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Biomass Native Structure Into Functional Carbon‐Based Catalysts for Fenton‐Like Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study indicates that eight biomasses with 2D flaky and 1D acicular structures influence surface O types, morphology, defects, N doping, sp2 C, and Co nanoparticles loading in three series of carbon, N‐doped carbon, and cobalt/graphitic carbon. This work identifies how these structural factors impact catalytic pathways, enhancing selective electron

Solar Rotation and Activity for Cycle 24 from SDO/AIA Observations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Differential rotation plays a crucial role in the dynamics of the Sun. We study the solar rotation and its correlation with solar activity by applying a modified machine learning algorithm to identify and track coronal bright points (CBPs) from the Solar

Differential rotation of the solar corona: A new data-adaptive multiwavelength approach

open access: yes, 2020
Context. The characterization of the differential rotation of the extended corona is still lacking conclusive results about the actual rotation rate profiles, and it is also expected to vary along the solar cycle.

Equator to Pole Solar Chromospheric Differential Rotation Using Ca-K Features Derived from Kodaikanal Data

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Differential rotation is one of the basic characteristics of the Sun, and it plays an important role in generating the magnetic fields and its activities.
