Context. We compare solar differential rotation of subphotospheric layers derived from local helioseismology analysis of GONG++ dopplergrams and the one derived from tracing small bright coronal structures (SBCS) using EIT/SOHO images for the period ...

DIFFERENTIAL ROTATION IN SOLAR-LIKE STARS FROM GLOBAL SIMULATIONS [PDF]
To explore the physics of large-scale flows in solar-like stars, we perform 3D anelastic simulations of rotating convection for global models with stratification resembling the solar interior. The numerical method is based on an implicit large-eddy simulation approach designed to capture effects from non-resolved small scales.

Self-consistent theory of turbulent transport in the solar tachocline. III. Gravity waves
To understand the fundamental physical processes important for the evolution of solar rotation and distribution of chemical species, we provide theoretical predictions for particle mixing and momentum transport in the stably stratified tachocline.

On Differential Rotation and Overshooting in Solar-like Stars [PDF]
Abstract We seek to characterize how the change of global rotation rate influences the overall dynamics and large-scale flows arising in the convective envelopes of stars covering stellar spectral types from early G to late K. We do so through numerical simulations with the ASH code, where we consider stellar convective envelopes coupled

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Solar Coronal Rotation from 1973 to 2017: An Analytical Approach Based on Coronal Hole Areas
Solar coronal rotation exhibits significant complexity, and its relationship with the 11 yr solar cycle remains poorly understood. Using 597 McIntosh synoptic maps (CR1601–CR2197), we construct the temporal evolution of coronal rotation by performing ...

Differential rotation and meridional circulation in global models of solar convection
In the outer envelope of the Sun and in other stars, differential rotation and meridional circulation are maintained via the redistribution of momentum and energy by convective motions.

The Sun's Preferred Longitudes and the Coupling of Magnetic Dynamo Modes
Observations show that solar activity is distributed non-axisymmetrically, concentrating at "preferred longitudes". This indicates the important role of non-axisymmetric magnetic fields in the origin of solar activity.
