ABSTRACT The drying of Sultana seedless grapes was investigated under intermittent and continuous operating conditions in a laboratory solar installation involving a thermal storage bed and an auxiliary heater. The effect of pretreatment, and of the a i r velocity on the drying rate of the grapes at constant temperature was also studied in relation t o

Drying is the oldest preservation technique of agricultural products, and sun drying is still widely used for preservation of agricultural products in the tropics and subtropics. Previous efforts on solar drying of cereal grains, fruits, vegetables, spices, medicinal plants, and fish are critically examined.

Abstract The heat and mass transfer analysis of grain drying for a prototype model is described and the results of a parameter survey showing the effects of various system parameters on drying time are presented. The unique feature of the prototype considered here is that the dryer unit itself serves partly as a solar collector.

Abstract Industrial drying may prove to be an economical application of solar energy when the process utilizes stored energy when sunshine is not available. A simple system has been evolved in this laboratory, wherein a reservoir and heat exchanger have been incorporated. Solar heat collection and storage is effected by thermosiphon action with water.

Efficient solar drying techniques: a review
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2021In the absence of effective drying techniques, a lot of food gets wasted as there is a lack of post-harvest processes. In India, most of the agricultural produces like paddy, maize, wheat, corn, oil seeds, pulses, chillies, etc. require a temperature range of 50-80 °C for effective drying.

ABSTRACT Importance of Solar Drying is increasing worldwide, especially in areas where the use of the abundant, renewable and clean solar energy is essentially advantageous. In the developing countries and in rural areas the traditional open-air drying methods should be substituted by the more effective and more economic solar drying technologies.

A comparative study to the performances of the drying bed and the draining greenhouse was made in summer and winter. During each season, the first experience was conducted in the drying bed. The two other experiences were carried out in the draining greenhouse under natural and forced convection.

Solar drying vs. open sun drying: A framework for financial evaluation
Solar Energy, 2006Initiatives towards large-scale dissemination of solar dryers for drying of agri-produce face severe competition from the largely prevalent practice of open sun drying in most of the developing countries. Therefore, solar drying systems must offer exceptionally attractive financial gains to enhance their acceptance among the potential users.

Research and development work in solar drying conducted in Thailand during the past 15 years is reviewed. Technical and economic results indicate that solar drying for some crops such as paddy, multiple crops and fruit is feasible. However, both the farmers who accept solar drying and the places where it is accepted are still very few.
