Solar Crop Drying

1987
The developing countries suffer heavy losses of food in the post harvest period during which the harvested crop passes through a series of well defined steps - like threshing (or shelling), drying, storage and final plrocessing (Fig. 1). Drying is one of the most important steps of post harvest handling of the crop.

Solar drying vs. open sun drying: A framework for financial evaluation

Solar Energy, 2006
Initiatives towards large-scale dissemination of solar dryers for drying of agri-produce face severe competition from the largely prevalent practice of open sun drying in most of the developing countries. Therefore, solar drying systems must offer exceptionally attractive financial gains to enhance their acceptance among the potential users.

Solar drying in Thailand

Energy for Sustainable Development, 1995
Research and development work in solar drying conducted in Thailand during the past 15 years is reviewed. Technical and economic results indicate that solar drying for some crops such as paddy, multiple crops and fruit is feasible. However, both the farmers who accept solar drying and the places where it is accepted are still very few.

Solar Food Drying

1987
It has been estimated that the world population will increase from the present value of 4 billion to 7 billion by the year 2000. It is also estimated that about 600 to 900 million people do not have enough food to eat now and this number is likely to increase with the increase in population, There are obviously two direct ways solving the problem: (1 ...

Solar drying of wastewater sludge: A review

Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2012
Abstract Drying constitutes an important process for wastewater sludge management, as it can reduce the mass and the volume of the product and consequently the cost of storage, handling and transport. During constant operating conditions, the drying kinetic of the sludge has shown mainly: a constant drying rate, one or two falling rate periods and a ...
