Modelling the total solar eclipse in 2024 with COCONUT

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Coronal modelling is crucial for a better understanding of solar physics and heliophysics. Accurate plasma conditions at the outer boundary of a solar corona lead to more precise space weather predictions.

Color Portion of Solar Radiation in the Partial Annular Solar Eclipse, October 3rd, 2005, at Helwan, Egypt

open access: yesActa Polytechnica, 2010
Measurements were made of various solar radiation components, global, direct and diffuse and their fractions during the partial annular solar eclipse on October 3rd, 2005 at Helwan, Egypt (Lat. 29.866◦ N and Long. 31.20◦ E), and an analysis has been made.

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 18, 2 March 2026.
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...

Clouds dissipate quickly during solar eclipses as the land surface cools

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Clouds affected by solar eclipses could influence the reflection of sunlight back into space and might change local precipitation patterns. Satellite cloud retrievals have so far not taken into account the lunar shadow, hindering a reliable spaceborne ...

Performance Constraints of All‐Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells in Low‐Intensity, Low‐Temperature Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 15, 12 March 2026.
All‐perovskite tandem solar cells are evaluated under low‐intensity and low‐temperature (LILT) conditions relevant to space environments. Distinct loss regimes emerge, where weaker entropic mixing causes halide segragation below ≈240 K going along with a strong current imbalance, while poor electron transport in C60 dominates.

Simulation of solar radiation during a total eclipse: a challenge for radiative transfer [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2007
A solar eclipse is a rare but spectacular natural phenomenon and furthermore it is a challenge for radiative transfer modelling. Whereas a simple one-dimensional radiative transfer model with reduced solar irradiance at the top of the atmosphere can ...

Perspective on Aqueous Batteries: Historical Milestones and Modern Revival

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 14, 6 March 2026.
This review retraces the development of aqueous batteries from classical Zn‐MnO2 chemistry to modern Zn and Ni systems, correlating voltage, capacity, and electrolyte formulation with practical performance. By mapping historical success and failure onto current and future research directions, it identifies guiding principles that steer the design of ...

Aerosol Lidar observations and model calculations of the Planetary Boundary Layer evolution over Greece, during the March 2006 Total Solar Eclipse [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2007
An investigation of the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) height evolution over Greece, during the solar eclipse of 29 March 2006, is presented. Ground based observations were carried out using lidar detection and ranging devices and ground meteorological ...

Monitoring of solar far ultraviolet radiation from the OSO-5 satellite [PDF]

open access: yes
A spectrophotometer for monitoring the solar EUV in three broad wavelength bands is described. The kind of data obtained, along with sources of error, are presented. The content of the tape library which contains the data is outlined.
