Global Distribution and Seasonality of Martian Atmospheric HCl Explained Through Heterogeneous Chemistry

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 6, 28 March 2025.
Abstract Recent observations from the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) have revealed the presence of hydrogen chloride (HCl) in the martian atmosphere. HCl shows strong seasonality, primarily appearing during Mars' perihelion period before decreasing faster than projected from photolysis and gas‐phase chemistry.

Investigating the Potential Atmospheric Accumulation and Radiative Impact of the Coming Increase in Satellite Reentry Frequency

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 6, 28 March 2025.
Abstract Construction of numerous satellite megaconstellations in the low Earth orbit (LEO) (300–2,000 km) is projected over the coming decades. Estimates suggest that the number of satellites in an LEO could exceed 60,000 by 2040. The increase in the annual mass flux of anthropogenic material into the upper atmosphere as a result of maintaining these ...

Intercomparison of Machine Learning Models to Determine the Planetary Boundary Layer Height Over Central Amazonia

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 6, 28 March 2025.
Abstract The planetary boundary layer height (zi) is a key parameter in meteorology and climatology, influencing weather prediction, cloud formation, and the vertical transport of scalars and energy near Earth's surface. This study compares multiple machine learning (ML) models that predict zi from surface measurements at two sites in Central Amazonia ...
