Techno-economics of solar re-powering and retro-fitting an existing district heating network

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management: X
Most of the district heating systems today use higher operating temperatures than those in new-built systems, possibly limiting compatibility with solar energy.

An Experimental Study of the Solar Collection Performance of Liquid-Type Solar Collectors under Various Weather Conditions

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
To design and use a solar heating system properly, it is very important to evaluate the performance of its solar collector. Because the solar collection efficiency of a solar collector depends on the amount of solar radiation, the conditions of the ...

Shaping Ti3C2 MXene Nanospheres for Precision Near‐Infrared Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we report producing spherical MXenes via fs laser fragmentation of Ti3C2 flakes in liquid medium. The nanoparticles demonstrated pronounced light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies of 68% and 63% under heating with NIR‐I and NIR‐II lasers, respectively.

Observations of an Energetically Isolated Quiet Sun Transient: Evidence of Quasi-Steady Coronal Heating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Increasing evidence for coronal heating contributions from cooler solar atmospheric layers, notably quiet Sun (QS) conditions, challenges standard solar atmospheric descriptions of bright transition region (TR) emission. As such, questions to the role of

Zwitterionic Self‐Assembled Monolayer for Simultaneous Noise Suppression and Hole Extraction in High‐Performance Near‐Infrared Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a new hole transporting material (HTM) mechanism for self‐assembled monolayers in near‐infrared organic photodetectors. The formation of zwitterions induces a strong electric field that significantly increases the work function of HTM‐coated indium tin oxide substrates. The devices exhibit low dark current and noise, along with high

Tidal Heating of Extra-Solar Planets

open access: yes, 2008
Extra-solar planets close to their host stars have likely undergone significant tidal evolution since the time of their formation. Tides probably dominated their orbital evolution once the dust and gas had cleared away, and as the orbits evolved there ...

Directly comparing coronal and solar wind elemental fractionation

open access: yes, 2020
As the solar wind propagates through the heliosphere, dynamical processes irreversibly erase the signatures of the near-Sun heating and acceleration processes. The elemental fractionation of the solar wind should not change during transit however, making

Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction: Metal Integration Principles, Strategies and Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with metals have been recognized as versatile platforms for photocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2PRR). Herein, an overview of metal integration strategies for COFs is systematically summarized. Regulatory mechanisms and structure–activity relationships between metal integration and COF‐based CO2PRR are emphasized.

SOLAR THERMAL SYSTEMS: CURRENT SITUATION AND AMBITIOUS GOALS

open access: yesNonconventional Technologies Review, 2020
Solar thermal energy is a straightforward application of renewable energy. The unique advantage of solar heating and cooling technologies is that they are compatible with nearly all sources of back-up heat and almost universally applicable due to their ...

The role of torsional Alfven waves in coronal heating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the context of coronal heating, among the zoo of MHD waves that exist in the solar atmosphere, Alfven waves receive special attention. Indeed, these waves constitute an attractive heating agent due to their ability to carry over the many different ...
