Modeling and detection of hot-spot in shaded photovoltaic cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, we address the problem of modeling the thermal behavior of photovoltaic (PV) cells undergoing a hotspot condition. In case of shading, PV cells may experience a dramatic temperature increase, with consequent reduction of the provided power.

Energetic Offset in Organic Solar Cells‐ Importance, Confusion and Outlook

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Energetic offsets in organic solar cells (OSCs) remain a subject of debate due to measurement‐ and lab‐dependent discrepancies. This Perspective clarifies the physical origins of these variations and identifies temperature‐dependent electro‐optical methods as a reliable approach to obtain consistent offset values.

Realization of Colored Multicrystalline Silicon Solar Cells with SiO2/SiNx:H Double Layer Antireflection Coatings

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, 2013
We presented a method to use SiO2/SiNx:H double layer antireflection coatings (DARC) on acid textures to fabricate colored multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) solar cells. Firstly, we modeled the perceived colors and short-circuit current density (Jsc) as a

Lattice‐Matched 2D Template Enables Efficient Cesium Tin Halide Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lattice‐matched 2D perovskite PEA2CsSn2I7 templates the out‐of‐plane growth of inorganic 3D γ‐CsSnI3 along the (110) plane, forming highly oriented 2D/3D tin halide perovskite heterostructures. With reduced trap states and mitigated δ‐phase impurities, the CsSnI3‐based solar cells achieve a power conversion efficiency of 15.27% and maintain stable ...

Single‐Chromophore Homojunction Organic Solar Cells: A Path to Simplicity and Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses how the intrinsic optoelectronic properties of organic semiconductors, their molecular packing in the solid‐state, and internal energetic gradients within a device can enable free‐charge carrier generation in homojunction organic solar cells.

When Poor Exciton Dissociation Limits Photocurrents in Organic Solar Cells: Why Low Offset Non‐Fullerene Acceptor Blends Can't Be Efficient

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The energetic offset between the donor and the acceptor components in organic photoactive layers is central to the tradeoff between photovoltage and photocurrent losses. This Perspective covers the most important issues surrounding this topic in non‐fullerene acceptor blends, from the difficulty of accurately determining state energies and driving ...

Monte Carlo simulation of CdTe thin film recrystallization process during chlorine activation

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2020
In this work we studied the grain growth and orientation change of CdTe multi-crystallize thin films during chlorine activation. A thermodynamic energy criterion is proposed for finding non-toxic substitutes of cadmium chloride and tested by Monte-Carlo ...
