International Journal of Solar Energy, 1984
The solar thermal central receiver technology, known as solar power towers, is rapidly evolving to a state of near-term energy availability for electrical power generation and industrial process heat applications. The systems consist of field arrays of heliostat reflectors, a central receiver boiler, short term thermal storage devices, and either ...

Unveiling land footprint of solar power: A pilot solar tower project in China
Journal of Environmental Management, 2021Land occupation by solar power installations has become a rising concern that may cause adverse impacts on natural ecosystems and biodiversity. Existing studies mainly adopt a local perspective to view land use requirements of solar power and forget that the solar-based electricity system is subordinate to the macro economy and nourished by the ...

Tower reflector for solar power plant
Solar Energy, 1976A method is proposed for transfering the energy from the top of the tower to the power plant at the bottom of the tower by using a reflector. Preliminary estimates appear favorable, and it is recommended that a detailed systems analysis be performed comparing the tower reflector with the power tower. (WDM)

A Small Concentrating Solar Power Tower System
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014A small scale prototype of functional R&D solar tower system (about 10 kW) to gather solar energy and store it in a molten salt tank will be designed, developed and built. The prototype tower system will be built at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where direct irradiation is very high.

Optimal Design of Solar Power Tower Systems
2016In this paper we review the recent research done by the authors in Solar Power Tower systems design focusing on the heliostat field problem. We first analyze the basic problem, in which all heliostats have the same size, as commonly addressed in the literature.

Electrical Modelling and Simulation of Solar Power Towers
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2010Abstract Photovoltaic installations seem more adequate to small sized widespread production than to large scale production in power plants. Portugal, namely the southern part, is worldwide known by its sunlight. Therefore, an alternative to use sun power as a source to produce electrical energy in relatively large power plants is the novel technology

Annual Yield Analysis of Solar Tower Power Plants With GREENIUS
Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, 2011An existing software tool for annual performance calculation of concentrating solar power and other renewable energy plants has been extended to enable the simulation of solar tower power plants. The methodology used is shown and a demonstrative example of a 50 MWe tower plant in southern Spain is given.
