A passive satellite deorbiting strategy for MEO using solar radiation pressure and the J2 effect

open access: yes, 2011
The growing population of space debris poses a serious risk to the future of space flight. To effectively manage the increase of debris in orbit, end-of life disposal has become a key requirement for future missions.

Episode of unusual high solar ultraviolet radiation over central Europe due to dynamical reduced total ozone in May 2005 [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2006
In late May 2005 unusual high levels of solar ultraviolet radiation were observed over central Europe. In Northern Germany the measured irradiance of erythemally effective radiation exceeded the climatological mean by more than about 20%.

Radiation Pressure from Interstellar Hydrogen Observed by IBEX through Solar Cycle 24 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
As the Sun moves through the local interstellar medium (LISM), neutral atoms travel through the heliosphere and can be detected by IBEX. We consider interstellar neutral (ISN) hydrogen atoms with a drifting Maxwellian distribution function in the LISM ...

When Poor Exciton Dissociation Limits Photocurrents in Organic Solar Cells: Why Low Offset Non‐Fullerene Acceptor Blends Can't Be Efficient

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The energetic offset between the donor and the acceptor components in organic photoactive layers is central to the tradeoff between photovoltage and photocurrent losses. This Perspective covers the most important issues surrounding this topic in non‐fullerene acceptor blends, from the difficulty of accurately determining state energies and driving ...

A Modified Method to Generate Typical Meteorological Years from the Long-Term Weather Database

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, 2012
A modified typical meteorological year (TMY) method is proposed for generating TMY from practical measured weather data. A total of eleven weather indices and novel assigned weighting factors are applied in the processing of forming the TMY database ...

Solar radiation pressure augmented deorbiting from high altitude sun-synchronous orbits

open access: yes, 2012
This paper discusses the use of solar radiation pressure (SRP) augmented deorbiting to passively remove small satellites from high altitude Sun-synchronous orbits. SRP-augmented deorbiting works by deploying a light-weight reflective inflatable device to

Comparison of Hamiltonian structure-preserving and Floquét mode station-keeping for Libration-point orbits

open access: yes, 2014
Libration-point orbit (LPO) missions are often selected for study the Sun and our Universe. The effect of perturbations such as the gravitational effect of other planets and Solar Radiation Pressure (SRP) makes the LPO's environment highly unstable. Thus,

Rethinking Charge Transport and Recombination in Donor‐Diluted Organic Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Organic solar cells with 1–45% PM6 content in Y12 were studied to link structure and charge dynamics to performance. The conductivity follows a 3D percolation model without a sharp threshold. Donor dilution preserves the photogeneration yield, but limits the fill factor due to transport resistance losses.
