Optimisation of Solar Receivers

2016
In solar thermal electricity plants, the receiver is an essential component in which the concentrated solar energy is absorbed and then transferred to a working fluid. Thus, the receiver effectiveness has a significant influence on the overall efficiency of the facility.

Solar Selective Volumetric Receivers for Harnessing Solar Thermal Energy

Volume 6B: Energy, 2016
Given the largely untapped solar energy resource, there has been an ongoing international effort to engineer improved solar-harvesting technologies. Towards this, the possibility of engineering a solar selective volumetric receiver (SSVR) has been explored in the present study.

Solar Selective Coatings for Concentrating Solar Power Central Receivers

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2011
Abstract Concentrating solar power (CSP) systems represent a zero emission method for conversion of sunlight to electricity. CSP systems use an array of mirrors to concentrate sunlight on the surface of a heat exchanger and heat a working fluid.

Dark alumina for novel solar receivers

Scripta Materialia, 2020
Concentrating solar power is one of the most promising solar energy exploitation technologies. Its efficiency improvement needs a significant increase of operating temperatures, from the current 500 degrees C to 900 degrees C. Alumina (Al2O3) ceramics are refractory materials characterized by a huge industrial interest, mature production techniques and

Heat Transfer Model of a 50 kW Solar Receiver–Reactor for Thermochemical Redox Cycling Using Cerium Dioxide

Journal of solar energy engineering, 2019
This work reports on the development of a transient heat transfer model of a solar receiver–reactor designed for thermochemical redox cycling by temperature and pressure swing of pure cerium dioxide in the form of a reticulated porous ceramic (RPC).

Photo-thermochemical decomposition of carbon-dioxide in a direct solar receiver-reactor

Solar Energy, 2019
The synergistic combination of the spectral and intensity features of solar energy can potentially lead to chemical synthesis processes under milder temperature conditions than those in solar thermochemical processes.

Inherent Limitations of Volumetric Solar Receivers

Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, 1996
The flow in volumetric absorbers is investigated using a simple mathematical model. It is found that there are several restrictions and failure mechanisms that are inherent to the volumetric absorber, regardless of the precise structural details, material properties, etc.
