Infrared Reflecting Solar Cells

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace, 1965
The equilibrium temperature of a solar cell panel in space is a function of the ratio of solar absorptance to infrared emittance of the surface. This paper describes a method for reducing solar absorptance by constructing the solar cell so that it will be a reflector in the infrared part of the solar spectrum.

Solar Heat Reflecting Coatings

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1969
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Tests conducted at the U. S. Army Coating and Chemical Laboratory, Aberdeen Proving Ground, indicate that some pigments are better than others in reducing heat build-up on painted surfaces from solar radiation. Special tests were also conducted to check the application of paint on automobile surfaces, using 12 ...

Viirs reflective solar bands calibration reprocessing

2015 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2015
Radiometric calibration coefficients for the VIIRS reflective solar bands have been reprocessed from the beginning of the Suomi NPP mission until present. An automated calibration procedure, implemented in the JPSS operational data production system, was applied to reprocess onboard solar calibration data and solar diffuser degradation measurements ...

Durable Solar Reflective Surfaces On Beryllium

SPIE Proceedings, 1989
Thin Al and Ag coatings (20 nm-100 nm) have been deposited on Be substrates using an ion beam enhanced deposition (IBED) process. Optical characterization was carried out by measuring the total hemispherical reflectance (THR) of these films over a wavelength range of 400-1000 nm and renorrnalizing the THR values to the solar spectrum (AM0).

Wave reflections in the solar atmosphere

Solar Physics, 1979
The small phase-lag between velocities observed at different chromospheric levels is interpreted as being due to acoustic waves reflected by the very hot atmospheric layers of the chromosphere-corona transition zone. We consider first an isothermal slab, then a realistic solar atmospheric model and calculate weighting functions for velocities in Ca ii ...

Interpretation of Solar Reflection Data

2017
This part of the spectrum is the most intensively studied region for remote sensing of the Earth. Solar reflected energy reaching the sensor depends upon a number of factors, viz. Sun attitude, atmospheric-meteorological conditions, topography, slope and aspect, sensor look angle and target reflectance.

MODIS reflective solar bands uncertainty analysis

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
A key instrument for the NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) mission, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), is currently operating on-board the Terra and Aqua spacecrafts. This paper discusses the calibration uncertainty analysis for the MODIS Reflective Solar Bands. Each MODIS, either on the Terra or on the Aqua spacecraft, has 20

Evaporation suppression by solar radiation reflection

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1971
In a recent paper, Beard and Gainer [1970] studied the influence of solar radiation reflectance on water evaporation. They concluded that for maximum suppression of evaporation, a special surface film or monolayer was required that would not only act as a diffusion barrier, but also as a good reflector of solar radiation.
