Bioactive Potential of the Sulfated Exopolysaccharides From the Brown Microalga Halamphora sp.: Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, and Antiapoptotic Profiles

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 5, Issue 9-10, October 2024.
ABSTRACT This study aims to investigate the physicochemical characteristics of the exopolysaccharides (EPS) extracted from the microalgae species Halamphora sp., as well as to evaluate their antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti‐apoptotic activities. The crude extracellular polysaccharides from the halophilic diatom Halamphora sp.

Experimental evolution of extremotolerant and extremophilic fungi under osmotic stress

open access: yesIUBMB Life, Volume 76, Issue 9, Page 617-631, September 2024.
Abstract Experimental evolution was carried out to investigate the adaptive responses of extremotolerant fungi to a stressful environment. For 12 cultivation cycles, the halotolerant black yeasts Aureobasidium pullulans and Aureobasidium subglaciale were grown at high NaCl or glycerol concentrations, and the halophilic basidiomycete Wallemia ...

Gracilimonas halophila sp. nov., isolated from a marine solar saltern

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2017
A Gram-stain-negative and facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated WDS2C40T, was isolated from a marine solar saltern in Weihai, China. Cells of strain WDS2C40T were 0.4-0.5 µm wide and 4.0-9.0 µm long, catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Strain WDS2C40T was tolerant to moderate salt concentrations. Growth occurred at 20-42 °C (optimum, 37-40 °

Marinicauda salina sp. nov., isolated from a marine solar saltern

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2019
A novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, oxidase-positive, motile, dimorphic rod bacterium, with a polar flagellum or a polar prostheca, designated as strain WD6-1T, was isolated from a sediment sample collected from a marine solar saltern located in Weihai, PR China. Growth of strain WD6-1T was observed at 15-45 °C (optimum, 37-40 °C).

Formulation and Statistical Optimization of Culture Medium for Improved Production of Antimicrobial Compound by Streptomyces sp. JAJ06

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, 2013
Streptomyces sp. JAJ06 is a seawater-dependent antibiotic producer, previously isolated and characterised from an Indian coastal solar saltern. This paper reports replacement of seawater with a defined salt formulation in production medium and subsequent

Salinigranum salinum sp. nov., isolated from a marine solar saltern

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2016
An extremely halophilic archaeal strain YJ-50-S2T was isolated from Yangjiang marine solar saltern, China. Cells were pleomorphic, stained Gram-negative and formed red-pigmented colonies on agar plates. Strain YJ-50-S2T was able to grow at 25-50 °C (optimum 37 °C), with 0.9-4.8 M NaCl (optimum 2.6 M NaCl) and 0-1.0 M MgCl2 (optimum 0.03 M MgCl2), and ...
