Architecture‐Driven Functional Coupling in Vertically Aligned Nanocomposites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Vertically aligned nanocomposites define a growth‐engineered architecture in which vertical interfaces, strain fields, defect pathways, and phase connectivity are created simultaneously. This review shows how these architectural features couple ferroic, optical, ionic, electrochemical, and device responses, establishing design rules and open challenges

Desert Plant Inspired Hierarchical Nanofibrous Membranes for Integrated Solar Desalination and Heavy Metal Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An Alhagi maurorum inspired hierarchical composite membrane (NFCu) was developed by integrating heavy metal remediation and solar‐driven interfacial evaporation in a single platform. Beyond the photothermal effect, a localized photocatalytic process is realized on the CuO surface, deepening the mechanistic understanding of light–matter–water ...

Covalent Functionalization of 2D Semiconductors: A Roadmap to Advanced Electronic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Review presents recent advances in the covalent functionalization strategies for two‐dimensional semiconductors and their implementation in modern technologies. Layered materials are modified through diverse molecular chemistries (e.g., thiols, diazonium salts, alkyl halides, and electron‐deficient species) to tailor their surface properties ...

Forward‐Biased Perovskite Photodiodes for In‐Sensor Optical Change Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A forward‐biased perovskite photodiode is introduced as an in‐sensor analog preprocessing unit that uses current balancing between photocurrent and injection current to generate optical changes relative to programmable optical reference levels. The device directly converts reference‐relative optical changes into bipolar current signals, enabling sensor‐

Photoinduced Charge Separation in Single‐Component Squaraine Films: The Key Role of Electrostatic Disorder

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Neat films of organic dyes are an interesting technological platform for solar cells and photodetectors. Recently, the conventional biphasic bulk‐heterojunction paradigm for photoinduced charge separation was challenged by the observation that charge carriers can be photogenerated in single‐component materials. A comprehensive experimental and

Proposal of a Reflector-Enhanced Solar Still Concept and Its Comparison with Conventional Solar Stills

open access: yesWater
Water scarcity is a global concern and poses significant problems to countries with arid and semi-arid climates, like Iran. Considering financial difficulties, a lack of knowledge about high-tech alternatives, low incomes, a lack of access to high-tech tools, and low maintenance capabilities in developing countries, solar still desalination is a decent

An oriented-design simplified model for the efficiency of a flat plate solar air collector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In systems design, suitably adapted physical models are required. Different modelling approaches for a solar air collector were studied in this paper. First, a classical model was produced, based on a linearization of the conservation of energy equations.

How is Nanoarchitectonics Shaping Extracellular Vesicle Research?

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The convergence of nanoarchitectonics and extracellular vesicle biology is reshaping next‐generation nanomedicine by enabling rationally designed nanostructures for enhanced EVs detection, engineering, and therapy. ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have gained recognition as crucial mediators of cell‐to‐cell communication, holding immense potential

Photovoltaic Stimulation of Mouse and Pig Retina With Pyrolytic Carbon Microelectrodes Integrated on High‐Density Silicon Solar Cell Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we fabricate photovoltaic retinal implants with pyrolytic carbon electrodes and test their ability to stimulate mouse and pig retinas when illuminated with near‐infrared light. We find increased spiking activity in both animal models compared to spontaneous activity and TTX controls and analyze the spike amplitude, latency and frequency.
