Combined impact of solar UV-B radiation and selenium treatment on respiratory potential in pumpkins (Cucurbita pepo L.)

open access: yesActa Agriculturae Slovenica, 2005
The effects of ambient and filtered solar UV-B radiation and of selenium treatment on respiratory potential measured by electron transport system (ETS) activity in pumpkins, Cucurbita pepo L. were studied.

Solar UV-B radiation and ethylene play a key role in modulating effective defenses against Anticarsia gemmatalis larvae in field-grown soybean.

open access: yesPlant, Cell and Environment, 2018
Solar UV-B radiation has been reported to enhance plant defenses against herbivore insects in many species. However, the mechanism and traits involved in the UV-B mediated increment of plant resistance are unknown in crops species, such as soybean. Here,

Quality assurance of solar UV irradiance in the Arctic [PDF]

open access: yesPhotochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 2010
The first Arctic intercomparison of three solar ultraviolet (UV) spectroradiometers and two multifilter radiometers was held in May and June 2009 at Ny-Alesund, Svalbard, Norway. The transportable reference spectroradiometer QASUME acted as reference instrument for this intercomparison. The measurement period extended over eleven days, comprising clear

SN 2021fxy: Mid-Ultraviolet Flux Suppression is a Common Feature of Type Ia Supernovae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We present ultraviolet (UV) to near-infrared (NIR) observations and analysis of the nearby Type Ia supernova SN 2021fxy. Our observations include UV photometry from Swift/UVOT, UV spectroscopy from HST/STIS, and high-cadence optical photometry with the Swope 1-m telescope capturing intra-night rises during the early light curve.

Dependence of the OH concentration on solar UV [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2000
OH and the major parameters determining its concentration were measured during a field campaign in August 1994 at Mankmoos, a rural, relatively unpolluted site in northeastern Germany. The measured OH concentrations were previously shown to depend mainly on the intensity of solar UV and on the mixing ratio of NO2.

Plant morphology, physiological characteristics, accumulation of secondary metabolites and antioxidant activities of Prunella vulgaris L. under UV solar exclusion

open access: yesBiological Research, 2019
Background Prunella vulgaris L. has been an important medicinal plant for the treatment of thyroid gland malfunction and mastitis in China for over 2000 years.

Quality assurance of the solar UV network in the Antarctic [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2005
Measuring ultraviolet radiation in the Antarctic region, where weather conditions are extremely challenging, is a demanding task. Proper quality control of the measurements and quality assurance of the data, which are the basis of all scientific use of data, has to be especially well planned and executed.

The correlation of synthetic UV color vs Mg II index along the solar cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Modeling of planets' climate and habitability requires as fundamental input the UV emission of the hosting star. \citet{lovric2017} employed SORCE/SOLSTICE solar observations to introduce a UV color index which is a descriptor of the UV radiation that modulates the photochemistry of planets atmospheres.

Spectral solar UV monitoring: worth it?

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2006
Monitoring of the terrestrial solar ultraviolet irradiance by using a radiometer is often considered as expensive and laborious or the data collected as insufficient in spatial coverage and in some cases in its temporal resolution, too. Therefore, alternative methods, all relying on modelling in one way or the other, have been developed. They differ

Solar ultraviolet-B radiation and vitamin D: a cross-sectional population-based study using data from the 2007 to 2009 Canadian Health Measures Survey

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2012
Background Exposure to solar ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation is a major source of vitamin D3. Chemistry climate models project decreases in ground-level solar erythemal UV over the current century.
