Variability in the solar output [PDF]
Abstract Evidence for variability in the solar output is briefly discussed. If the solar neutrino flux and the solar oscillation frequencies vary over a solar cycle this could indicate that the solar cycle has its origin in the solar core rather than be due to dynamo action in the solar convective zone.

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Technology roadmap: solar photovoltaic energy - 2014 edition [PDF]
Solar power enhances energy diversity and hedges against price volatility of fossil fuels, thus stabilising costs of electricity generation in the long term, argues this report.

I: Retrieval of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide from High-Resolution Spectra. II: Interannual Variability of the Stratospheric Quasi-Biennual Oscillation [PDF]
This thesis is devoted to an understanding of climate changes in the troposphere and the stratosphere from different aspects. In the troposphere, projecting future climate depends on our understanding of the exchange of CO₂ between the atmosphere, oceans,

Solar irradiance variability [PDF]
AbstractWe study solar irradiance variability. The current generation of models show that the irradiance since then has increased by between 0.9 and 1.5 W m−2.

Mechanically origami‐coded 3D kirigami photovoltaics convert a single extension–release cycle into deterministic self‐folding, reconfiguring planar solar cells into programmable 3D modules. Distinct coding strategies enable either ultrahigh stretchability (500% system strain) or ultrahigh initial effective areal coverage (225%).

The opportunities for integrating large amounts of variable solar power generation into power systems depend on the degree of variability in the power generation and on the flexibility of the power system.

Why Coronal Mass Ejections Arrive Differently: Solar Cycle Modulation Through Solar Wind Structure
Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are large structures of magnetized plasma ejected from the Sun's atmosphere into the heliosphere. The interaction of CMEs with the ambient solar wind during propagation affects arrival time and speed at Earth.

Phase Engineering of Atomically Precise Nanoclusters (APNCs) of Gold and Beyond
Engineering the structural phase of materials is of paramount importance for both fundamental research and practical applications. In this Review, we summarize the recent progress in controlling the phases of atomically precise nanoclusters (APNCs) of gold, silver and copper, as well as bimetallic systems. The phase‐enabled material properties of APNCs

ABSTRACT Accurately knowing the frontier orbital energies of the structurally disordered small‐molecule organic semiconductors that are used in optoelectronic devices such as organic light‐emitting diodes is required to rationally improve their performance. Here, we show that these energies can be deduced with a large accuracy from the peak energies of
