Solar-wind predictions for the Parker Solar Probe orbit

open access: yes, 2017
The scope of this study is to model the solar-wind environment for the Parker Solar Probe's unprecedented distances down to 9.86 Rs in its mission phase during 2018-2025.

Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.

Characterizing the Impact of Alfvén Wave Forcing in Interplanetary Space on the Distribution of near-Earth Solar Wind Speeds [PDF]

open access: yes
Broadly, solar wind source regions can be classified by their magnetic topology as intermittently and continuously open to the heliosphere. Early models of solar wind acceleration do not account for the fastest, non-transient solar wind speeds observed near-Earth and energy must be deposited into the solar wind after it leaves the Sun.

Solar wind collisional heating [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plasma Physics, 2017
To properly describe heating in weakly collisional turbulent plasmas such as the solar wind, interparticle collisions should be taken into account. Collisions can convert ordered energy into heat by means of irreversible relaxation towards the thermal equilibrium. Recently, Pezzi et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett., vol. 116, 2016a, 145001) showed that the plasma

Power output evaluation of a wind–solar farm considering the influence parameters

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, 2021
Power generation from a hybrid wind–solar farm depends on several parameters such as farm location (solar radiation, wind direction, wind speed), layout of farm, shadowing effect and ambient temperature.

Velocity Profiles in the Solar Corona from Multi-Instrument Observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present a method to derive outflow velocities in the solar corona using different data sets including solar wind mass flux coming from the SWAN/SOHO instrument, electron density values from LASCO-C2 and interplanetary solar wind velocities derived from ground-based Interplanetary Scintillation Observations (IPS).

Solar winds along curved magnetic field lines

open access: yes, 2011
Both remote-sensing measurements using the interplanetary scintillation (IPS) technique and in situ measurements by the Ulysses spacecraft show a bimodal structure for the solar wind at solar minimum conditions.
