Cinefluorography of Solid Fuel Rocket Motors

1963
A cinefluorographic system developed for the study of internal burning of rocket motors during static tests is described. This system uses a 9-in. image intensifier tube with a light intensification of approximately 2000 coupled to a 35-mm movie camera. A 250-kvp, 5-ma X-ray machine is used to penetrate a 5-in.

Manufacture of Housing Joints in Solid-Fuel Rocket Engines

Russian Engineering Research, 2019
To decrease the metal content in the housings of solid-fuel rocket engines, the metallic joint reinforcement may be replaced by plastic components. A device for the production of reinforcement blanks by winding is developed. This system ensures polymerization and machining of the plastic.

Solid-Fuel Rocket Motor Efficiency Improvement Scheme

2014
Aluminum-based propellants are commonly used in solid rocket motors (SRM) due to their high energy densities. However, the alumina (Al2O3) particles produced during aluminum propellant combustion present performance issues. These particles flow along the combustion chamber to the nozzle in liquid form causing chemical and mechanical erosive damage ...
