固体燃料の燃焼を表面燃焼, 分解燃僥, 蒸発燃焼に分け, 之等の燃焼を行う代表的な固体燃料につき燃焼速度から燃焼機構を推定した。表面燃焼を行うものは揮発分の少いコークス, 無煙炭, 木炭等で炭素というより一種の化合物であうが, その初期反応としては固体炭素の燃焼機構を主として考える事が出來る。石炭, 亜炭, 木材等固体燃料の主要なものの大部分が行う分解燃焼に於ては之等の固体燃料が先づ乾溜されて水分を放出し, 次に緩漫燃焼をなし, 着火点に達し, 着火点に達すると共に熱分解が盛んとなり燃料実体の燃焼の外に分解生成気体の燃焼を伴う事を明かにした。之等の燃焼機構は固体炭素と炭化水素の中間に位するものと考える事が出來るがその初期反応に於てはむしろ高級衆化水素の燃焼機構に類似すると考えられる ...
