A review on material characterization of composite solid propellant

Journal of Energetic Materials, 2023
Composite solid propellants (CSPs) are extensively used in solid rocket motors (SRMs) due to their excellent mechanical properties, stability, and high energy density.

In Situ Monitoring of Curing Reaction in Solid Composite Propellant with Fiber-Optic Sensors.

ACS Sensors, 2023
Curing activity in the preparation of solid composite propellants determines the performance of solid rocket motors in operation. Limited by the lack of effective monitoring tools, the complete curing behavior and thermal-induced curing kinetics are ...

Ti 3C 2 MXene: A Reactive Combustion Catalyst for Efficient Burning Rate Control of Ammonium Perchlorate Based Solid Propellant

Social Science Research Network, 2021
Achieving higher energy storage and controllable energy release processes is the major research goal in solid propellants. Combustion catalysts are applied to modify the energy release behavior of solid propellants, but at the expense of lowering the ...

Assessing the thermal safety of solid propellant charges based on slow cook-off tests and numerical simulations

, 2021
A method is proposed to assess the thermal safety of solid propellant charges by measuring the temperature and pressure of propellant specimens during cook-off tests and determining the reaction kinetics.

Solid-propellant erosive burning

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1987
A modeling approach based on experimental verification for the erosive burning of ammonium perchlorate composite propellants is proposed. It retains the idea that erosive burning is due to the penetration of the flow turbulence within the flame height and to the consequent enhancement of the transport coefficients and of the heat flux to the surface ...

Impact of MWCNT/Al on the combustion behavior of hydroxyl ammonium nitrate (HAN)-based electrically controlled solid propellant

, 2020
In the controllable combustion field, hydroxyl ammonium nitrate (HAN)-based electrically controlled solid propellants (ECSPs) is of growing interest in green fuels with safety, throttle- ability and at-will on-off capability.

Solid propellent rheology

Rheologica Acta, 1969
The rheological behaviour of plastic propellent in rocket motor situations is simulated in an experimental technique. In this a differential gas pressure is applied across a plug of propellent in a rigid tube so as to deform it in an approximately telescopic shear fashion. Preliminary results are given and discussed.
