2012The solid-propellant rocket motor brings the flight mission capability of high thrust delivery over a short duration. Design issues, such as tailoring the shape of the solid propellant grain (charge) to produce a desired thrust-time profile, are discussed in some detail in this chapter.

Thermoacoustic Instabilities in Solid Rocket Motors
45th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2009This work describes an unreported instability in so lid rocket motors found out by numerical simulations. A detailed numerical study s hows that this instability is thermoacoustic and results from a coupling between acoustic velocity and aluminum combustion heat release.
