Numerical Simulations of Very Low Velocity Impacts and Ignition of an Explosive Confined by a Thin Case

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 446-455, March 2026.
A low‐speed impact (around one meter per second) of a metallic tip on an explosive confined by a thin plate is simulated. The heat due to friction between the tip and the plate and the one due to the deformation of the plate are not transfered to the ignited zone.

Experimental Hypervelocity Dust Impacts in Olivine—Multiscale Insights Into Microcrater Shock and Melting Effects From Coordinated SEM/TEM Observations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract The flux of solar system meteoroids is dominated by objects less than 1 mm in diameter whose impact effects play a major role in the space weathering of airless body surfaces. These effects remain poorly characterized with respect to their dependence on the range of impact speeds for meteoroids across the inner solar system.

Vortex containment for the gaseous-fission rocket [PDF]

open access: yes, 1961
The nuclear rocket is potentially capable of much higher specific impulse than any chemically fueled rocket, because of the high energy content per unit mass of the fissionable material.

An Abrupt Decrease in Electron Temperature Inside the Ionospheric Density Holes During the Launches of Carrier Rockets

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 4, 28 February 2026.
Abstract Previous observations have demonstrated that rocket exhaust can trigger ionospheric electron density holes and cause electron temperature enhancements during launches. Using high‐precision measurements from the Sanya incoherent scatter radar, we discovered a previously overlooked decrease in electron temperature.

Launch vehicle performance using metallized propellants [PDF]

open access: yes
Metallized propellant propulsion systems are considered as replacements for the solid rocket boosters and liquid sustainer stages on the current launch vehicles: both the Space Transportation System (STS) and the Titan 4.
