Aqueous Two‐Phase Bioinks for Discrete Packing and Compartmentalization of 3D Bioprinted Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueous two‐phase systems (ATPS) enable the formation of biomimetic interfaces crucial for tissue engineering. However, clinical translation remains limited by the challenge of precisely controlling cellular compartmentalization. Here, we developed ATPS biomaterial inks for 3D bioprinting allowing tuneable droplet formation via NaCl modulation.

Applications for special-purpose minerals at a lunar base [PDF]

open access: yes
Maintaining a colony on the Moon will require the use of lunar resources to reduce the number of launches necessary to transport goods from the Earth. It may be possible to alter lunar materials to produce minerals or other materials that can be used for

A Physiological Microfluidic Blood–Brain‐Barrier Model for In Vitro Study of Nanoparticle Trafficking and Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human microfluidic blood‐brain barrier (mBBB) model enables spatially resolved comparison of nanoparticle trafficking. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), liposomes, and nanoplastics exhibit distinct transport and disruption behaviors, revealing that membrane composition and uptake pathways govern BBB interaction.

Environmental impact of an agricultural solid waste disposal and transformation plant in the Province of Almería (Spain)

open access: yesInformes de la Construccion, 2010
The wastes generated by the intensive agriculture systems of the Province of Almería (Spain) are very varied, and they frequently cannot be directly reused; for example, mixtures of plant material and plastic raffia cannot be used as animal feed. A less indiscriminate form of management of these wastes, however, could lead to their being turned into ...

Electrically Assisted Thermal Stamping of Tunable Carbon‐Based Nanofilms for Direct Fabrication of Hydrophobic, Energy Harvesting, and Sensing Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the electrically assisted thermal stamping (EATS) method for direct fabrication of carbon‐based nanofilms and their multifunctional applications. Localized Joule heating triggers simultaneous exfoliation, reduction, and fluoropolymer incorporation under ambient conditions, yielding tunable carbon‐based thin‐film coatings ...

Cytotoxicity of leachate from the final disposal of water treatment plant sludge

open access: yesCleaner Water
The final disposal of Water Treatment Plant Sludge (WTPS) in soils can generate leachates with cytotoxic potential due to residual metals and organic compounds. This study evaluated the cytotoxicity of leachates derived from simulated sanitary landfills,

Pollution Prevention and Business Management. Curricula for Schools of Business and Public Health. Volume 1: Modules 1-3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
These instructional modules are based on the premise that sustained economic development is dependent upon sustained protection ofthe environment. They also reflect the fact that preventing waste is far more cost effective than managing the waste once ...

Single‐Atom Photocatalyst as Floatable Artificial Leaf for Upcycling Oceanic Plastic Waste

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
To resolve the catastrophic disaster of oceanic plastic pollution, the novel Ru single atom loaded ZnIn2S4 photocatalysts, in the forms of powder or floatable artificial leaf, were prepared for direct conversion of raw polypropylene plastic into valuable chemicals. The optimized catalyst exhibits exceptional performance, with a total formic/acetic acid
