The problem of storage of solid waste in permafrost

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2021
The specifics of solid waste storage in permafrost were analyzed. The main types of impact of the waste on the natural environment and frozen soils were determined as mechanical, physicochemical, load, and thermal. The research allowed us to define eight

Fire protection guide for solid waste metal drum storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
This guide provides a method to assess potential fire development in drum storage facilities. The mechanism of fire propagation/spread through stored drum arrays is a complex process.

Mercury goes Solid at room temperature at nanoscale and a potential Hg waste storage

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
While room temperature bulk mercury is liquid, it is solid in its nano-configuration (Ønano-Hg ≤ 2.5 nm). Conjugating the nano-scale size effect and the Laplace driven surface excess pressure, Hg nanoparticles of Ønano-Hg ≤ 2.4 nm embedded in a 2-D ...

Physical, biological and chemical effects on unsorted fractions of industrial solid waste in waste fuel storage

open access: yesWaste Management & Research: The Journal for a Sustainable Circular Economy, 1996
Technical, biological and environmental problems encountered in the storage of industrial waste fuel are analysed and discussed. Measurements of temperature, moisture content, oxygen, methane and carbon dioxide during the storage period are presented. It

Evaluation of existing Hanford buildings for the storage of solid wastes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Existing storage space at the Hanford Site for solid low-level mixed waste (LLMW) will be filled up by 1997. Westinghouse Hanford Company (WHC) has initiated the project funding cycle for additional storage space to assure that new facilities are available when needed.

The effect of storage and mechanical pretreatment on the biological stability of municipal solid wastes [PDF]

open access: yesWaste Management, 2010
Modern mechanical-biological waste treatment plants for the stabilization of both the source-separated organic fraction of municipal solid wastes (OFMSW) and the mixed stream of municipal solid wastes (MSW) include a mechanical pretreatment step to separate recyclable materials such as plastics, glass or metals, before biological treatment of the ...

Airflow Resistance of Solid-Separated Dairy Waste for Drying and Storage

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
The resistance of solid-separated solid wastes (SSDWs) to moderate airflow ranging from 0.05 to 0.30 m3/s-m2 was measured at various bed depths and moisture levels. The pressure drop across a loose-fill fixed bed column was observed to increase more rapidly with increasing airflow rates than with increasing bed depths.

Biodrying for mechanical-biological treatment of wastes: A review of process science and engineering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Biodrying is a variation of aerobic decomposition, used within mechanical–biological treatment (MBT) plants to dry and partially stabilise residual municipal waste.

Informal Collection of Household Solid Waste in Three Towns of Anambra State, Nigeria

open access: yesPresent Environment and Sustainable Development, 2014
Management of urban solid waste implies the collection, transfer, treatment recycle, reuse and disposal of such waste. Collection of urban household solid waste traditionally rests with government agencies designated with such responsibility. Solid waste
