Simulated model studies for solid waste storage surveillance facility
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2002High level radioactive waste generated from reprocessing of spent fuel from nuclear reactors are encased in canisters after vitrification. They have high heat generation rate and need interim storage under surveillance and are to be cooled continuously until major portion of the heat is dissipated.

Solid waste for energy storage material as electrode of supercapacitors
Materials Letters, 2016Abstract We propose a novel idea to utilize environment pollutant cigarette ash for energy storage material as electrode of supercapacitors as supercapacitors can deliver high power and reasonable energy densities as compared to batteries which deliver energy as a result of chemical reactions and suffer with low power densities.

Waste Management, 2009
Since 1st of June, 2005 it was stipulated that municipal solid waste (MSW) in Germany must be sufficiently pre-treated before final disposal. Thermal and high-performance mechanical-biological processes may be employed for this pre-treatment. Due to the current lack of sufficient operating capacity in the corresponding facilities, part of the waste ...

Dioxin Contamination after a Hypothetical Accidental Fire in Baled Municipal Solid Waste Storage
Revista de Chimie, 2018Landfill management usually entails dealing with the production of leachate and the formation of biogas, with the related environmental and public health concerns. One element that tends not to be investigated, is the risk of a fire with the consequent emission of toxic substances, especially dioxins.

Achieving “Final Storage Quality” of municipal solid waste in pilot scale bioreactor landfills
Waste Management, 2009Entombed waste in current sanitary landfills will generate biogas and leachate when physical barriers fail in the future, allowing the intrusion of moisture into the waste mass contradicting the precepts of the sustainability concept. Bioreactor landfills are suggested as a sustainable option to achieve Final Storage Quality (FSQ) status of waste ...

On-site storage and collection of solid wastes in Hong Kong
Conservation & Recycling, 1984Abstract More than 3,700 tonnes of refuse are collected every day in Hong Kong where over five million people are housed within a land area of only 1064 square kilometers. In addition, most of the population are centralised in the developed area with the highest population density of 165,455 people per square kilometer at 1981. In the year 1981/1982,
