RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

The Effect of Bulk Nucleation Parameters on the Solidification Structure of Large Slabs During Electroslag Remelting and Optimization of Production Process Parameters

open access: yesCrystals
In this paper, the moving heat transfer boundary method is adopted to establish a three-dimensional solidification microstructure model based on the coupling technology of the cellular automata method (CA) and finite element method (FE), simulate the ...

Phase boundary anisotropy and its effects on the maze-to-lamellar transition in a directionally solidified Al-Al2Cu eutectic

open access: yes, 2019
Solid-solid phase boundary anisotropy is a key factor controlling the selection and evolution of non-faceted eutectic patterns during directional solidification. This is most remarkably observed during the so-called maze-to-lamellar transition.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Cooling slope casting to obtain thixotropic feedstock [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Thixoforming, and related semi-solid processing routes for metallic alloys, require feedstock with a non-dendritic microstructure in the semi-solid state.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Simulation on solidification structure of 72A tire cord steel billet using CAFE method [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2012
The solidification microstructure has an important effect on the mechanical properties of castings. Therefore, an FE (Finite Element) – CA (Cellular Automaton) coupling model was developed for the simulation of solidification structure during the ...

Impact of a senior research thesis on students' perceptions of scientific inquiry in distinct student populations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study addressed how a senior research thesis is perceived by undergraduate students. It assessed students' perception of research skills, epistemological beliefs, and career goals in Biochemistry (science) and BDC (science‐business) students. Completing a thesis improved confidence in research skills, resilience, scientific identity, closed gender‐
