Role of fragmentation in as-cast structure: numerical study and experimental validation [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2017
A volume average solidification model is extended to incorporate fragmentation as the source of equiaxed crystals during mixed columnar-equiaxed solidification.

Simulation of solidification structures of binary alloys

open access: yesZeitschrift für Metallkunde, 2002
Abstract A discussion of the multiparticle diffusaon-limited aggregation model for the simulation of solidification structures from a binary alloy melt under isothermal conditions is presented. The model incorporates simultaneous diffusion of all atoms in the liquid, atoe attachment kinetics at the solid/liquid interface, depending on the local number ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Study on Solidification Structure Evolution of Direct-Chill Casting High Purity Copper Billet Using Cellular Automaton-Finite Element Method

open access: yesMetals, 2020
A heat transfer model and a cellular Automation-Finite Element (CAFE) coupling model were established to analyze the solid/liquid (S/L) interface and solidification structure evolution of high purity copper Direct-chill (DC) casting billet under ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of lead clusters

open access: yes, 2001
Molecular dynamics simulations of nanometer-sized lead clusters have been performed using the Lim, Ong and Ercolessi glue potential (Surf. Sci. {\bf 269/270}, 1109 (1992)).

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Research on the Solidification Structure of the Zn-19Al-6Mg Alloy

open access: yesMetals
This paper deals with “Zn-19Al-6Mg” coatings and their solidification structure is the basis for the study of the alloy’s properties. The solidification equilibrium phase diagram of this alloy was calculated using thermodynamic software.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

On the existence and structure of a mush at the inner core boundary of the Earth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
It has been suggested about 20 years ago that the liquid close to the inner core boundary (ICB) is supercooled and that a sizable mushy layer has developed during the growth of the inner core.
