Increased Risk of Sarcomas in Children With Congenital Anomalies: Findings From the Genetic Overlap Between Anomalies and Cancer in Kids (GOBACK) Registry Linkage Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pediatric sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors that contribute disproportionately to cancer mortality in children. Although congenital anomalies are among the strongest known risk factors for childhood cancer, the risk of specific sarcoma subtypes among affected individuals has not yet been thoroughly evaluated. Procedure We

On the solidity parameter in canopy flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We have performed high-fidelity simulations of turbulent open-channel flows over submerged rigid canopies made of cylindrical filaments of fixed length l=0.25H (H being the domain depth) mounted on the wall with angle of inclination θ. The inclination is

Effect of Solidity and Camber Angle on Performance in Contra-rotating Open Rotor Design [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
In this paper, an aerodynamic design method for a contra-rotating open rotor based on lifting line theory is presented. By changing the number of blades, the solidity and camber angle are changed, and several different aerodynamic designs are completed ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

The analysis of physical properties of filter cloth [PDF]

open access: yesActa Montanistica Slovaca, 2005
This contribution deals with a measurement of physical properties of filter textiles. When comparing INOFIL PES-1 and FINET PES-1 filter textiles, the filter textile FINET PES-1 was found to provide better results than the filter textile INOFIL PES-1 in ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Maximum Thickness Location Selection of High Subsonic Axial Compressor Airfoils and Its Effect on Aerodynamic Performance

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2021
Solidity and camber angle are key parameters with a primary effect on airfoil diffusion. Maximum thickness location has a considerable impact on blade loading distribution. This paper investigates correlations of maximum thickness location, solidity, and

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
