Unraveling the Heterogeneity of Cargo Distribution in the Exogenous Association of Proteins With Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We characterized the distribution of cargo proteins associated with extracellular vesicles using various exogenous loading methods. In all cases, single‐particle analysis revealed that the distribution of protein content per EV is heterogeneous, following an exponential decay function.

Aplicabilidade da técnica de deep mixing aos solos moles do Baixo Mondego

open access: yes, 2011
Over the last 40 years, in situ chemical improvement or stabilization of soils with binder materials (deep mixing) has been successfully applied to a large range of soils, namely soft soils. The existence of such kind of deposit near Coimbra supported the decision of studying the potential of this improvement technique.

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...

Análise comparativa de soluções construtivas de aterros sobre solos moles

open access: yes
The present work studies the constructive method adopted in the construction of the embankment for the execution of Viaduct 1 of Avenida Orlando Gomes, one of the main avenues of the city of Salvador, located in the Brazilian northeast. In the locality, due to the presence of soft soils in the foundation soil, which have weak mechanical characteristics,

Co‐Electrospinning Extracellular Matrix with Polycaprolactone Enables a Modular Approach to Balance Bioactivity and Mechanics of a Multifunctional Bone Wrap

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The incorporation of nondigested ECM and synthetic polymers into a co‐electrospinning system enables the decoupling of bioactivity and mechanical properties within a single wrap. This technique is used to develop a multifunctional bone wrap that achieves augmented membrane durability, sustained infection control, and enhanced vascularity for use in ...

Controlling Intestinal Organoid Polarity using Synthetic Dynamic Hydrogels Decorated with Laminin‐Derived IKVAV Peptides

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Design rules are presented to control intestinal organoid polarity in fully synthetic hydrogels. The laminin‐derived IKVAV sequence is crucial to obtain correct intestinal organoid polarity. Increasing hydrogel dynamics further supports the growth of correctly polarized intestinal organoids, while a bulk level of stiffness (G’ ≈ 0.7 kPa) is crucial to ...

Novel 3D‐Printed Biophotonic Scaffold Displaying Luminescence under Near‐Infrared Light for Photopharmacological Activation and Biological Signaling Compound Release

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Despite significant efforts in developing novel biomaterials to regenerate tissue, only a few of them have successfully reached clinical use. It has become clear that the next generation of biomaterials must be multifunctional. Smart biomaterials can respond to environmental or external stimuli, interact in a spatial‐temporal manner, and trigger ...
