Modification of a commercial DNA extraction kit for safe and rapid recovery of DNA and RNA simultaneously from soil, without the use of harmful solvents

open access: yesMethodsX, 2015
An optimized method, based on the coupling of two commercial kits, is described for the extraction of soil nucleic acids, with simultaneous extraction and purification of DNA and RNA following a cascade scheme and avoiding the use of harmful solvents ...

A Biologically‐Architected Wear and Damage‐Resistant Nanoparticle Coating From the Radular Teeth of Cryptochiton stelleri

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The ultrahard teeth of mollusks that feed on rocky substrates contain a wear‐resistant coating on their surfaces consisting of densely packed mesocrystalline magnetic nanoparticles within an organic matrix. These coatings display significant hardness and toughness through their highly controlled mesocrystalline architectures.

Bio‐Inspired Nanoarchitected LiFePO4 Cathodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is synthesized using a bio‐inspired method, using acidic macromolecules similar to those found in many calcareous mineralized organisms to modulate the morphology and crystal growth of LFP‐carbon composite particles. The observations from this process indicate a non‐classical crystallization process, which subsequently ...

What is the most relevant soil structure parameter to describe field-measured N2O emissions?

open access: yesGeoderma
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from soil are partly controlled by aeration and gas transfer in soil, and thus by soil structure. The intensity of N2O emissions is usually expressed according to the water filled pore space (WFPS), calculated using the soil

Polyferrocene‐Based Cubosomes: Conversion to Magnetic Mesoporous Microparticles, Supramolecular Modification, and Oxidation Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyferrocene block copolymers are synthesized and assembled into micron‐sized polymer cubosomes with double diamond lattice and pore diameter of ≈30 nm. The ferrocene functionality is retained within the polymer cubosome wall as demonstrated on supramolecular modification, and oxidative disassembly.

Protein Kinase C δ Regulates the Depletion of Actin at the Immunological Synapse Required for Polarized Exosome Secretion by T Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Multivesicular bodies (MVB) are endocytic compartments that enclose intraluminal vesicles (ILVs) formed by inward budding from the limiting membrane of endosomes. In T lymphocytes, ILVs are secreted as Fas ligand-bearing, pro-apoptotic exosomes following

Multistackable, Domino‐Overlapped CNT Scaffolds Homogeneously Hybridized with BTO‐P(VDF‐TrFE) for High‐Performance Piezoelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multilayer‐stackable carbon nanotuber (CNT) scaffold‐based piezoelectric nanogenerator (CPENG) with domino‐patterned CNT pillars presents high, stable output (12.3 V, size of 1 cm × 1 cm) over 2000 cycles, operates across a wide temperature range, and efficiently converts energy from real‐life stimuli through optimized CNT length, layer stacking, and

Sol

open access: yes, 2021
