Solution of the Advection-diffusion Equation using the Differential Quadrature Method

open access: yesKSCE Journal of Civil Engineering, 2010
Differential Quadrature Method (DQM) to integrate the one-dimensional Advection-diffusion Equation (ADE) is presented. This method was applied to two examples and the results were compared with the performance of the Explicit Finite Difference Method (EFDM) and Implicit Finite Differences Method (IFDM).

Fast rapidly convergent penetrable scattering computations

open access: yesAdvanced Modeling and Simulation in Engineering Sciences
We present a fast high-order scheme for the numerical solution of a volume-surface integro-differential equation. Such equations arise in problems of scattering of time-harmonic acoustic and electromagnetic waves by inhomogeneous media with variable ...

Drive-Loss Engineering and Quantum Discord Probing of Synchronized Optomechanical Squeezing

open access: yesMathematics
In an optomechanical system (OMS), the dynamics of quantum correlations, e.g., quantum discord, can witness synchronized squeezing between the cavity and mechanical modes.

High-order quadratures for integral operators with singular kernels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
A numerical integration method that has rapid convergence for integrands with known singularities is presented. Based on endpoint corrections to the trapezoidal rule, the quadratures are suited for the discretization of a variety of integral equations ...

Characterization and Repetition Rate Locking of a 1 GHz Erbium‐Doped ZBLAN Waveguide‐Chip Comb Laser

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A compact, erbium‐doped ZBLAN waveguide chip mode‐locked laser that self‐starts, delivers stable ultrashort pulses, and repetition rate locked to a 1 GHz radio‐frequency reference. The laser produces near transform‐limited 324 fs pulses and 12 nm bandwidth with low noise and long‐term stability, with potential applications in optical frequency ...

On Hybrid-Function Solutions of the Lotka–Volterra Equations

open access: yesMathematics
The classical Lotka–Volterra predator–prey system is often used in modeling species competition. The two-species nonlinear system is expressed in terms of a single positive coupling parameter λ.

A new class of nonlinear partial differential equations solvable by quadratures

open access: yes, 1992
We introduce a class of nonlinear partial differential equations in two independent scalar variables, say x and t, characterized by the property that the initial value problem for given boundary values can be solved by quadratures. The Liouville equation

A highly accurate numerical method for solving boundary value problem of generalized Bagley‐Torvik equation

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
A highly accurate numerical method is given for the solution of boundary value problem of generalized Bagley‐Torvik (BgT) equation with Caputo derivative of order 0<β<2$$ 0<\beta <2 $$ by using the collocation‐shooting method (C‐SM). The collocation solution is constructed in the space Sm+1(1)$$ {S}_{m+1}^{(1)} $$ as piecewise polynomials of degree at ...

Correlating Pulmonary Hemodynamics With HP 129Xe Dissolved‐Phase MRSI in a Controlled Porcine Intervention Study

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Pulmonary hypertension is related to a 1‐year mortality ranging from < 5% to > 20% in low‐ and high‐risk groups. Right heart catheterization is the diagnostic gold standard, associated with a 1.1% rate of severe adverse events, posing the need for a non‐invasive diagnostic tool.

Designing ZV and ZVD Input Shapers Using the Designed Fixed Output Response Method to Suppress Residual Vibration of Overhead Crane Systems With Trolley Traveling and Payload Hoisting

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Classical Zero Vibration (ZV) and Zero Vibration and Derivative (ZVD) input shapers are designed around a fixed nominal natural frequency and cannot accommodate the time‐varying dynamics introduced when an overhead crane simultaneously travels and hoists a payload.
