Design of a Three‐Phase PWM Rectifier Based on Improved Whale Optimization Algorithm Optimized Fuzzy Control

open access: yesAdvanced Control for Applications, Volume 8, Issue 3, September 2026.
Schematic diagram of the whale optimization algorithm (WOA)–optimized fuzzy proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller. The WOA is employed to dynamically tune the scaling factor expressions and fuzzy control parameters (a(e)a(e), a(ec)a(ec), βpβp, βiβi), as well as the initial PID gains (kp0kp0, ki0ki0), based on the error (ee) and its ...

Controlling Radiative Phonons in the van der Waals Ferroelectric NbOI2

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 53, 21 September 2026.
Using a simple mirror geometry, this work demonstrates local‐density‐of‐optical‐states control of THz phonon emission in van der Waals ferroelectric NbOI2. By engineering the photonic environment, the phonon Q‐factor, linewidth, peak frequency, and emission intensity are reversibly tuned by over an order of magnitude, revealing radiative phonons as ...

A Compact Three‐Layer VO2‐Integrated Reflective THz Metasurface With Switchable Half‐Wave‐Plate and Quarter‐Wave‐Plate Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
A switchable terahertz polarization conversion metasurface is demonstrated, utilizing the insulator‐to‐metal phase transition to achieve binary functionality within a single device. By toggling between material states, the metasurface provides high‐performance linear‐to‐circular (LTC) conversion in the insulating phase and linear‐to‐linear (LTL) cross ...

Optical Windows for Transcranial Brain Imaging in Living Mice: Skull Thinning, Clearing, and Beyond

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 52, 18 September 2026.
Longitudinal, noninvasive in vivo imaging is crucial for studying brain physiology. Advances in transcranial optical windows and multiphoton microscopy have improved imaging depth, but their performance often deteriorates over time. This work investigated various transcranial window approaches and found that skull regrowth limits image quality.
