A quantitative model of solvatochromism in a binary solvent system is presented. Although it is derived for merocyanine and betaine dyes, it explains a majority of known examples of solvatochromism in binary solvents. The model provides an estimation of equilibrium constants between particular types of solvates present therein.

Covalent immobilisation of solvatochromic dyes
Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1995Solvatochromic dyes of the pyridinium-N-phenoxide family (e.g. Reichardt's dye) have been covalently immobilized on silica substrates with retention of Solvatochromic behaviour, allowing construction of optical chemical sensors using these dyes.

Nonlinear Polarization of Solvatochromic Betaine 30
The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2010Evidence is presented that solvatochromism of 2,6-diphenyl-4-(2,4,6-triphenylpyridinio)-phenolate (Reichardt's dye or Betaine 30) results not only from a large reduction of dipole moment and hydrogen bonding, but also from the modulation of mesomeric effect.

Amino‐acid‐functionalized solvatochromic probes
Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry, 2008AbstractN‐(4‐nitrophenyl)‐L‐proline (2) has been obtained by a nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction of 4‐fluoronitrobenzene with L‐proline. The corresponding amide derivatives 3–5 have been synthesized by peptide coupling of 2 with different amino acid derivatives and chiral amines.

Solvatochromic and Fluorescence Behavior of Sulfisoxazole
Journal of Fluorescence, 2010The Fluorescence spectroscopic and solvatochromic behavior of Sulfisoxazole, a sulfa drug with antimicrobial activities, in various pure solvents of different polarity and hydrogen bonding capability is reported. The fluorescence emission spectrum of sulfisoxazole was found to be solvent polarity dependent, where a notable red shift in emission maximum

Solvatochromic effects in mixed polymers
Polymer Photochemistry, 1984Abstract The ‘solvent’ effect on the energy of excited states of solute molecules dispersed in mixed polymers has been investigated by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The important concept of dielectric enrichment (specific solvation of polar solutes by polar solvents) can be extended from the liquid to the solid state if it is assumed that
