Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Economic capital allocation derived from risk measures. [PDF]

open access: yes
We examine properties of risk measures that can be considered to be in line with some 'best practice' rules in insurance, based on solvency margins. We give ample motivation that all economic aspects related to an insurance portfolio should be considered

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

BALANCING THE BUDGET THROUGH REVENUE OR SPENDING ADJUSTMENTS? THE CASE OF GREECE [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper examines the solvency of the Greek fiscal policy. Employing a cointegrated VAR as a benchmark, evidence of a long-run link between revenues and spending is presented, although intertemporal solvency is violated.

Privatisation is no salvation. CEPS Commentary, 23 June 2011 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Protests continue in Greece as its leaders debate the latest suggestions for dealing with its crippling debt. One proposal is for Greece to privatise several of its assets. This Commentary argues that privatisation is a mirage. If solvency is the problem,

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

SOLVENCY II – THE NEW EU SOLVENCY REGIME ON THE INSURANCE MARKET [PDF]

open access: yesBuletin ştiinţific: Universitatea din Piteşti. Seria Ştiinţe Economice, 2012
The main causes that lead to insurer’s solvency issues such as the underwriting, investment or reinsurance deficiencies have remained the same over time. However, their incidence is increasing, as well as their complexity.
