Order of wetting transitions in electrolyte solutions [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Chem. Phys. 140, 174713 (2014), 2014
For wetting films in dilute electrolyte solutions close to charged walls we present analytic expressions for their effective interface potentials. The analysis of these expressions renders the conditions under which corresponding wetting transitions can be first- or second-order.

The structure of fluids with impurities [PDF]

open access: yesZ. Phys. Chem. 226, 807 (2012), 2012
The influence of dilute impurities on the structure of a fluid solvent is investigated theoretically. General arguments, which do not rely on particular models, are used to derive an extension of the Ornstein-Zernike form for the solvent structure factor at small scattering vectors. It is shown that dilute impurities can influence the solvent structure

The local phase transitions of the solvent in the neighborhood of a solvophobic polymer at high pressures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We investigate local phase transitions of the solvent in the neighborhood of a solvophobic polymer chain which is induced by a change of the polymer-solvent repulsion and the solvent pressure in the bulk solution. We describe the polymer in solution by the Edwards model, where the conditional partition function of the polymer chain at a fixed radius of

Advance in Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction of Edible Oils: A Review [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fasting and Health, 2020
Ultrasonic waves cause an increase in oil extraction efficiency through their mechanical effects, cavitation, and the energy generated by this phenomenon.

Microplastics Reduce the Negative Effects of Litter-Derived Plant Secondary Metabolites on Nematodes in Soil

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2021
Microplastics and plant litter are ubiquitous in the soil environment, and both materials can influence soil properties and biota. Plant litter releases secondary metabolites (e.g., phenolic compounds) during the decomposition process, including chemical

An Improved Method for Rapid Detection of Mycobacterium abscessus Complex Based on Species-Specific Lipid Fingerprint by Routine MALDI-TOF

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2021
Rapid diagnostics of bacterial infection is the key to successful recovery and eradication of the disease. Currently, identification of bacteria is based on the detection of highly abundant proteins, mainly ribosomal proteins, by routine MALDI-TOF mass ...

Solvent quality and solvent polarity in polypeptides

open access: yesPhysical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2023
Synthetic polymers assume a compact/extended conformation in a poor/good solvent. Proteins, formed by both hydrophobic and polar moieties fold in water but not in apolar solvents. This difference can be rationalized and quantified by calculating the solvation free energy.

Chain Conformations and Phase Separation in Polymer Solutions with Varying Solvent Quality [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science 59 (22), 2819-2831 (2021), 2021
Molecular dynamics simulations are used to investigate the conformations of a single polymer chain, represented by the Kremer-Grest bead-spring model, in a solution with a Lennard-Jones liquid as the solvent when the interaction strength between the polymer and solvent is varied.

Influence of asymmetric depletion of solvents on the electric double layer of charged objects in binary polar solvent mixture [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2016,18, 26509-26518, 2022
For binary solvent mixtures composed of ions and two kinds of polar solvents, electric double layer near a charged object is strongly affected by not only the binary solvent composition but also nature of solvents such as volume and dipole moment of a solvent molecule. Accounting for difference in sizes of solvents and orientational ordering of solvent
