Deep Eutectic Solvents as Efficient Solvents in Biocatalysis

Trends in Biotechnology, 2019
'Ideal' solvents in biocatalysis have to fulfill a large number of requirements, such as high substrate solubility, high enzyme activity and stability, and positive effects on reaction equilibrium. In the past decades, many enzymatic synthesis routes in water-based and nonaqueous (organic solvents, ionic or supercritical fluids) reaction media have ...

Solvent reorganization of electron transitions in viscous solvents

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2006
We develop a model of electron transfer reactions at conditions of nonergodicity when the time of solvent relaxation crosses the observation time window set up by the reaction rate. Solvent reorganization energy of intramolecular electron transfer in a charge-transfer molecule dissolved in water and acetonitrile is studied by molecular dynamics ...

Solvent-Dependent Changes in Molecular Reorientation Dynamics: The Role of Solvent−Solvent Interactions

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2010
We report on the rotational diffusion dynamics of two different chromophores, resorufin and 6-(N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl)amino)hexanoic acid (NBDHA) in water and N-octyl-2-pyrrolidone (NOP) solvents. We measure the induced orientational anisotropy function, R(t), using time-correlated single photon counting.

Occupational neurotoxicology of organic solvents and solvent mixtures

Neurotoxicology and Teratology, 1989
The results of two field studies in painters and spray painters, the outcomes of examinations of workers with suspected work-related disease due to solvents, as well as data from an evaluation of an epidemiologic study in painters with confirmed occupational disease, are presented and discussed.

INVESTIGATION OF SOLVENT LOSSES IN THE SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF BORON

Solvent Extraction and Ion Exchange, 1995
ABSTRACT Solubility, adsorption onto mineral particles and entrainment of 2-chloro-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethy1-buty1)-6-methylol-phenol (CTMP) in aqueous slurry phase are considered here. The results show that, the solubility at equilibrium increased sharply with pH, but remained at only 16 parts per million (ppm) at pH 9.

Neurotoxicity of solvents

2015
Worldwide, several hundred million tons of organic solvents are used annually in household, industry, and other occupational settings. Millions of workers are regularly exposed to organic solvents considered neurotoxic. Acute neurotoxicity due to high exposure of solvent is usually evident, but the nature of long-term effects, such as chronic solvent ...
