Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

Bridging and depletion mechanisms in colloid-colloid effective interactions: A reentrant phase diagram

open access: yes, 2015
A general class of nonadditive sticky-hard-sphere binary mixtures, where small and large spheres represent the solvent and the solute, respectively, is introduced.

Effects of Particle Size, Extraction Time, and Solvent Selection on Daidzein Extracted Amount from Tempeh-A Fermented Product of Soybean

open access: yesJurnal Farmasi Sains dan Komunitas, 2019
Daidzein, one of the isoflavone aglycones contained in tempeh, has several biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-breast cancer, and suppression of expression of matrix metalloprotease-9. As a fermented product from soybeans,

Prediction of Solvent Effect on Asphaltene Precipitation at Reservoir Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Science and Technology, 2012
The aim of the current study is to evaluate the effects of inhibitors or solvents on asphaltene precipitation under reservoir conditions. To this end, the interaction between live oil and solvent, and its side effects on precipitated/dissolved asphaltene

Study of the Influence of a Solvent on the Crystal Structure of an Ethyl-Substituted Bisthiosemicarbazone Ligand

open access: yesChemistry Proceedings, 2023
A potentially dianionic symmetric bisthiosemicarbazone ligand H2LEt has been prepared by a condensation reaction between two equivalents of 4-N-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazide and one equivalent of 4,4′-methylenebis(acetophenone).

Biophysical analysis of angiotensin II and amyloid‐β cross‐interaction in aggregation and membrane disruption

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Angiotensin II (AngII), a neuropeptide, interacts with amyloid‐β (Aβ), a key player in Alzheimer's disease. This study reveals that AngII reduces Aβ aggregation and membrane disruption in vitro. Biophysical assays and molecular modeling suggest AngII binds disordered Aβ forms, potentially modulating early amyloidogenic events and contributing to ...

Role of solvent for globular proteins in solution

open access: yes, 2005
The properties of the solvent affect the behavior of the solution. We propose a model that accounts for the contribution of the solvent free energy to the free energy of globular proteins in solution.

Hydrophobic Polyelectrolytes in Better Polar Solvent. Structure and Chain Conformation as seen by Saxs and Sans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We demonstrate in this paper the influence of solvent quality on the structure of the semi-dilute solution of a hydrophobic polyelectrolyte, partially sulfonated Poly-Styrene Sulfonate.

A Compact and Smooth CH3NH3PbI3 Film: Investigation of Solvent Sorts and Concentrations of CH3NH3I towards Highly Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2018
Four solvents (isopropanol (IPA), n-butyl alcohol (NBA), n-amyl alcohol (NAA), and n-hexyl alcohol (NHA)) were investigated to prepare CH3NH3I (methylammonium iodide, MAI) solutions to transform PbI2 film into CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI3) film.
