Dependence of Solute Solubility Parameters on Solvent Polarity

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1985
In nonpolar solvents a solute may self-associate through polar interactions, exposing its nonpolar surface to a solvent with a low solubility parameter, delta 1. In polar solvents a solute is solvated, presumably, by the polar groups of the solvent.

Grouping solvents by statistical analysis of solvent property parameters: implication to polymorph screening

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2004
The success rate of discovering new polymorphs by crystallization from solution may be increased if solvents with diverse properties are used during initial polymorph screening. In this study, eight solvent parameters, including hydrogen bond acceptor propensity, hydrogen bond donor propensity, polarity/dipolarity, dipole moment, dielectric constant ...

Analysis of the solvent strength parameter (linear solvent strength model) for isocratic separations in reversed-phase liquid chromatography.

Journal of Chromatography A, 2022
The solvent strength parameter (slope) and intercept (log kw) of the linear solvent strength model are determined for methanol-water (17 columns), acetonitrile-water (15 columns), acetone-water (7 columns), tetrahydrofuran-water (6 columns), and 2 ...

Artificial intelligence for performance prediction of organic solvent nanofiltration membranes

, 2021
There is an urgent need to develop predictive methodologies that will fast-track the industrial implementation of organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN). However, the performance prediction of OSN membranes has been a daunting and challenging task, due to ...

The Polymer-Solvent Interaction Parameter X

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1977
Abstract The interaction parameter X has been defined as a measure of the chemical potential of the solvent in solutions with a polymeric solute. Consequently a number of equilibrium properties can be expressed as functions of X. Values of X determined from these properties reveal that for most systems this quantity increases with the volume ...

Estimation of solvent-tolerance of bacteria by the solvent parameter log P

Journal of Fermentation and Bioengineering, 1991
The solvent-tolerance of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria were determined by the solvent parameter, log P. The solvent-tolerance of bacteria tested were in the following order, Pseudomonas>Escherichia, Serratia, Klebsiella>Proteus, Achromobacter, Acinetobacter>Alteromonas, Aeromonas, Flavobacterium>Alcaligenes, Bacillus>Agrobacterium ...

Solute–solvent interaction parameters by gas chromatography

Journal of Chromatography A, 2004
Gas–liquid distribution coefficients at ideal dilution in non-volatile solvents can be measured by gas chromatography. The numerical value of a coefficient depends on the choice of the concentration unit in the solvent and in the gas phase. The relationships between different coefficients characterizing gas–liquid equilibria are discussed and ...

On the distribution of the bulk-solvent correction parameters

Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography, 2000
The distribution of the bulk-solvent correction parameters (B(sol), k(sol)) (as determined with an exponential scaling algorithm based on Babinet's principle) for 219 crystal structures deposited in the Protein Data Bank is presented. The distribution shows that (i) the range of values observed is far wider than the usually cited parameter range, (ii ...
