We describe the clinical evaluation of the nervous-system effects of solvent exposure. We review the current evidence in the epidemiological literature on neurotoxicological effects of solvents, and outline methods and issues to be taken into account in assessment of the patient whose symptoms may be related to solvent toxicity.

Taurine promotes glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion in enteroendocrine L cells
Taurine, a sulfur‐containing amino acid, is likely taken up by enteroendocrine L cells via the taurine transporter. This process increases the levels of cytosolic ATP. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentrations and glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion through membrane depolarization is caused by the closure of ATP‐sensitive potassium channels ...

Inducing Stratification of Colloidal Mixtures with a Mixed Binary Solvent [PDF]
Molecular dynamics simulations are used to demonstrate that a binary solvent can be used to stratify colloidal mixtures when the suspension is rapidly dried. The solvent consists of two components, one more volatile than the other. When evaporated at high rates, the more volatile component becomes depleted near the evaporation front and develops a ...

Hydrodynamics and mass transfer in bubble column: Influence of liquid phase surface tension [PDF]
According to literature, few experiments are performed in organic solvents which are mostly used in commercial gas–liquid reactors. However, it is commonly accepted that data obtained in aqueous solution allow to predict the surface tension effects, and ...

The NlpC_P60 superfamily of peptidases is recognised by its key role in bacterial cell wall homeostasis. Recently, studies have also described the involvement of NlpC_P60‐like enzymes in bacterial competitive mechanisms and pathogenesis across several lineages.

An evaluation of thermodynamic models for the prediction of drug and drug-like molecule solubility in organic solvents [PDF]
Prediction of solubility of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) in different solvents is one of the main issue for crystallization process design. Experimental determination is not always possible because of the small amount of product available in ...

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...
