Designing Co–N/C Cathode Catalysts with Dense Atomic Cobalt Sites for Enhanced PEMFC Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cobalt‐based platinum‐metal free catalysts can compete with iron‐based materials as catalysts on the cathodes of fuel cells due to their high site density and activity. This discovery highlights the importance of understanding the active sites responsible for the catalytic activity in these non‐precious metal catalysts.

Catastrophic Degradation in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Caused by Air Supply Interruption in Real‐World Operations: Fundamental Mechanisms and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Interrupting the air supply during the operation of solid oxide fuel cells leads to irreversible chemical degradation of the cathode materials, primarily driven by strontium at the A‐site of perovskite structures. Alternative strontium‐free materials effectively address this issue, ensuring high performance and reliable operation during operational ...

High‐Performance Monolayer 1T‐GeO2 Transistors with Low‐Resistance Metal Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
First‐principles quantum transport simulations reveal that monolayer 1T‐GeO2 forms ideal Ohmic contacts with conventional metals due to suppressed Fermi‐level pinning. The devices exhibit high on‐state currents of 1151–3237 nA nm−1 and ultralow contact resistance of 35.33–54.03 Ω·µm, outperforming state‐of‐the‐art 2D and oxide semiconductors in ...

Integrated Carbon Dioxide Capture and Electrochemical Conversion: Chemistry, Electrode and Electrolyzer Design, and Economic Viability

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review discusses the integrated pathway of CO2 capture and its direct electrochemical conversion. It begins by discussing CO2 capture chemistries and solvent systems, followed by a detailed analysis of various CO2 release mechanisms. Key principles of reactor and catalyst design for direct CO2 electroreduction from capture media are then ...
