Differential Somatic Cell Count as a Novel Indicator of Milk Quality in Dairy Cows

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Recent available instruments allow to record the number of differential somatic cell count (DSCC), representing the combined proportion of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and lymphocytes, on a large number of milk samples.

The importance of somatic cell count in dairy technology

open access: yesMljekarstvo, 2023
Mastitis is an important infection that affects herd health, udder health and milk yield of individual animals. Somatic cells (SCs) naturally present in milk are used as an indicator of subclinical mastitis, but also to assess milk quality and safety ...

Population Dynamics of Bulk Milk Somatic Cell Counts

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1990
The population dynamics for bulk milk SCC in 27,000 Dutch dairy farms was studied over 6 yr; SCC declined markedly in 1984 and 1985. This coincided with the introduction of the quota system in the European Community. The CV of SCC was .36, ranging from .15 to .89.

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Publications in Uremic Toxins From 1991 to 2024

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Uremic toxins are a growing area of research in nephrology, with significant implications in the progression and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the management of end‐stage kidney disease (ESKD). This bibliometric analysis aims to evaluate the global research trends, key contributors, and the impact of publications in ...

Development of Mid-Infrared Spectroscopy (MIR) Diagnostic Model for Udder Health Status of Dairy Cattle

open access: yesAnimals
The somatic cell count (SCC) and differential somatic cell count (DSCC) are proxies for the udder health of dairy cattle, regarded as the criterion of mastitis identification with healthy, suspicious mastitis, mastitis, and chronic/persistent mastitis ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Intramammary bacterial profile and its impact on the number and differential distribution of somatic cells in the context of drying off in dairy cows

open access: yesCluj Veterinary Journal
Mastitis remains one of the most significant conditions in dairy cattle farms, with major consequences for animal health and milk quality. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of intramammary infections (IMI) and to analyze the ...

Dynamics of Milk Parameters of Quarter Samples before and after the Dry Period on Czech Farms

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
This study aimed to monitor milk parameters on three different dairy farms in the Czech Republic to describe their readiness for implementing selective dry cow therapy. Fat, protein, casein, lactose, solids-not-fat content, total solids content, freezing

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
